Rebecca and Andrew

Rebecca and Andrew had their photos taken last week. Such photographic kids....certainly don't take after their grandmother!

Andrew is 6 months old and Rebecca is 11....she is such a good older sister and he ADORES her. All she has to do is walk into the room and his face lights up and he breaks into a huge smile. He jabbers something in baby talk which probably translates into "Hi beautiful...long time no see!"

Who Me???

Andrew is spending lots of time moving around and off his play mat so that he can explore. It was sooo much easier when we could plop him down on the mat and be confident that he would stay there.
*
Since he can't quite figure out how to get his ample belly off the ground, he rolls from front to back and back to front or spins around on his tummy like a pinwheel.

It's not fast, but is productive....he eventually works his way off the play mat onto the living room floor! And then grins to let everyone know that...... "I can do it!"

Plastic baby bottles - yes or no?

I think we will replace Andrew’s plastic baby bottles with glass…..today’s news report says that bisphenol, a chemical used to make baby bottles and other shatterproof plastic containers could be linked to a range of hormonal problems.
*
From what I understand, heating the baby bottle in a microwave releases more of the chemical. And we wonder why our children and grandchildren have been developing illnesses and health problems in greater numbers.
*
More than 90 percent of Americans are exposed to trace amounts of bisphenol, according to the CDC. The chemical leaches out of water bottles, the lining of cans and other items made with it. Thats a scary statement.....we're slowly but surely being poisoned. A little here, a little there, adds up to a lot more than a trace.

The American Chemistry Council, which represents manufacturers, said the report “affirms that there are no serious or high level concerns for adverse effects of bisphenol on human reproduction and development.”

A spokeswoman for the International Formula Council, which represents baby food makers, said Tuesday added “ that no foreign governments have restricted or banned its use. “

Now why doesn’t that statement put my mind at ease?

Almost 6 months!

Our little Andrew will be 6 months old on April 17th.....gosh how time flies! He is sitting up, grabbing for anything he can reach, and is the king of his domain. He hasn't started to crawl and we are of the opinion that he would rather just climb up something and start to walk....patience is not his middle name.

We will be his "babysitters" until October when we take a 12 day train trip from Chicago through Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, White Fish and back to Chicago. He will be at a day care facility from October until January.....then he'll be OURS again!

Andrew is starting on solids....squash and sweet potatoes. He's doing pretty well, but still can't figure out what to do with his tongue....keeps pushing the food out of his mouth. Guess he has to learn how to swallow instead of having his tongue wrapped around the nipple of his bottle.

However, since he's nearly 20 lbs, it doesn't look like he's missed many meals!
*
Andrew has an older sister, Rebecca who is 11 .... he loves seeing her and having her read to him. She will sit with her books and read, read, read....he enjoys Harry Potter the best but will happily listen to anything Rebecca reads.
*
He sits in his bouncy chair and attentively listens as she practices her flute....he's not judgmental, a few wrong notes or occasional squeek don't bother him at all. She's his big sister, and any attention from her is welcome.
